Liechtenstein Presidency of the Council of Europe
In mid-November 2023, Liechtenstein will take over the rotating six-month Presidency of the Council of Europe's most important body in Strasbourg: the Committee of Ministers.

The Council of Europe is the continent‘s leading organisation in the field of human rights, democracy and the rule of law. The organisation was founded with the aim of building greater stability and co-operation on the European continent.

Liechtenstein has already held the Presidency of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers twice (in 1987 and 2001) and will take over the presidency for the third time from November 2023 to May 2024.
5 ambassadors have represented Liechtenstein in Strasbourg since 1978.
10 citizens have lodged individual applications against Liechtenstein, with subsequent rulings by the European Court of Human Rights in each case.
Today the Council has 46 member States. There were 21 members when Liechtenstein joined the Organisation. Some 700 million European citizens benefit from the Council of Europe’s activities.
